Diving for the disabled or those with special needs

Description This is a tailored programme for people who need extra support to undertake their diving. It takes place in the safety of the El Cabron Marine Reserve and under the watchful eye of your instructor. Each programme will be different and tailored to the specific diver needs. Please note however that the diving in Arinaga is not suitable for all types of disability, as access to the entry point is uneven, and very difficult for divers with limited leg strength or agility.
Minimum Requirements Must hold a recognised diving qualification at any level, from any training agency, and a signed certificate of fitness to dive from a doctor or GP.
Course Content This course will consist of a detailed briefing in our dive centre, followed by one or more dives in the marine reserve led by an internationally qualified instructor. Optionally a second dive can be undertaken on the same day. The supervision ratio will normally be one to one, or one student to two in-water helpers. While there are some disabilities we can support, we must point out that neither our dive centre or the marine reserve is very wheelchair accessible, and most dives in the reserve will require some degree of mobility on the shore.
Skills covered The content will vary to cover the individual needs and capability of the diver.
